3-Day Braj circuit: Mathura · Vrindavan · Gokul · Govardhan

The classic full loop for first-timers with a third day: everything from the 2-day plan, plus Krishna’s childhood at Gokul and Raman Reti, and the Govardhan parikrama — by vehicle for families and seniors, on foot for the zealous.

Day 1 — Mathura (as in the 2-day plan)

Morning Janmabhoomi and Dwarkadhish; mid-day museum; dusk Vishram Ghat aarti. Sleep in Mathura. Full Day-1 walkthrough →

  • 5:45 am

    Janmabhoomi at opening

Lockers, security, calm darshan, out by 8 — then Dwarkadhish through the lanes.

  • 12:00 pm

    Museum in the closure window

Kushan–Gupta Mathura school: the perfect intellectual counterpoint to the morning’s devotion.

  • 5:30 pm

    Vishram Ghat aarti

Sunset lamps on the Yamuna; boat ride optional. Dinner and early night.

Day 2 — Gokul, Raman Reti & Vrindavan

  • 6:30 am · drive ~30 min

    Gokul & Raman Reti

Across the Yamuna to Krishna’s foster village: the fine golden quartz sand of Raman Reti (the sand Krishna played in), the Nanda Bhavan shrines, and the quiet riverside ghats. Still sleepy when you arrive — that is the point. Gokul guide →

  • 9:30 am · drive ~15 km

    Vrindavan morning

Banke Bihari (phones off), then Nidhivan & Seva Kunj on foot. The old-town bazaar hums by 10; grab lassi and kachori as you go.

  • 11:30 am

    ISKCON prasadam lunch

Reliable, clean, English-friendly — and the calm re-energises families before the closure hours.

  • 12:30 – 4:30 pm · temples closed

Rest / Parikrama Marg bazaar / rooftop tea

This is time for the bazaars (poshak, brass diyas, radhe-radhe kurtas) or a genuine hotel nap. Do not fight the closure.

  • 5:30 pm

Temple belt reopens — evening round

Pick two: Rangji’s Dravidian towers, the Goswami-era Radha Ramana / Radha Gopinath quiet shrines, or ISKCON’s sandhya aarti. See Vrindavan deep guide →

  • 7:30 pm

    Prem Mandir light show

The finale again — and it is worth a second slow look on a 3-day trip. Sleep in Vrindavan tonight so Day 3 starts at Govardhan, or return to Mathura if you prefer one base.

Day 3 — Govardhan parikrama & the road home

  • 5:30 am

    Start early at Govardhan

From Vrindavan it is ~25 km (50 min); from Mathura ~23 km (40 min). Sunrise over Kusum Sarovar and the hill is the day’s first blessing.

  • 7:00 am – 11:30 am

    Govardhan parikrama (~21 km)

By vehicle (tempo/four-wheeler, ~2–3 hours with stops) or on foot (4–5 hours; start earlier). Key halts: Kusum Sarovar, Radha Kund, Mukharvind, Mansi Ganga, the Annakut temple. Families and seniors: take the vehicle, stop freely. Full parikrama guide →

  • 12:00 pm

    Govardhan town lunch

Simple thali in the temple town; make sure the driver’s fare was fixed for the whole halt.

  • 1:30 – 4:00 pm

Radha Kund / Shyam Kund & Baldeo (Dauji)

If energy remains: the sacred kunds — and Baldeo (Dauji) temple, the shrine of Balaram, 20 minutes further. Both are quiet, authentic, and almost never on tourist lists. Radha Kund notes →

  • 4:30 pm

Return to Mathura / station / Delhi

An hour back to MTJ; evening trains to Delhi are frequent. If you are driving, the expressway to Delhi is 2.5–3 hours.

Making it 4–5 days? Add Barsana and Nandgaon (the Radha Rani hill temples and the least-touristed village views in Braj) — see Barsana guide. The full 84-kos yatra lives in its own guide.
